LyStream: Film Streaming Platform
A streaming website for films. Anyone can browse the library; viewers watch free films, rent paid films for 48 hours, switch subtitles between Haitian Creole, French, Spanish and English, and use AI to search inside films, jump between chapters and ask questions about what they are watching.
Press Try as viewer on the sign-in page to watch without an account. Rentals use sandbox payments, so no real money is charged.
Who LyStream is for
LyStream is a film streaming platform with two sides: the people watching, and the admins who run the library.
Visitors
Browse the library without signing in, search titles and open a film’s page to read its description and chapters before deciding to watch.
Viewers
Watch free films, rent paid films, pick a subtitle language, search inside films, ask questions about a film, and manage saved cards and rentals in their account.
Admins
Upload films, set the title, free or paid and the rental price, add a credit line and thumbnail, create and review subtitles in four languages, edit AI descriptions and tags, and manage the library.
What LyStream does
A complete viewing and rental flow, plus the admin tools to run a multilingual library.
The library
Every finished film shows as a card with a thumbnail, its length, its title and Free or its rental price. A CC mark means subtitles are ready, and hovering over a free film plays a short preview.
Watching
A player with pause, volume, full screen and a subtitle menu. Up next lists other films beside the player, and the next one starts after a short countdown that can be cancelled.
48-hour rentals
Paid films show a lock and a price. Renting opens a secure Stripe checkout; the film then plays as often as the viewer likes for 48 hours, the card shows the time left, and renting the same film twice never charges twice.
Saved cards and rental history
Viewers save a card to Stripe for faster checkout, change or remove it, and see every rental with its price and date, active ones with the time left.
Subtitles in four languages
Haitian Creole, French, Spanish and English for every film, chosen from the CC button and changeable at any time while watching.
Library management
Admins edit details, change or remove thumbnails, regenerate AI chapters and delete films from one menu on each card, and see every AI call of the last week on an AI usage page.
AI built from the subtitles
Every AI feature in LyStream works from the film’s own transcript. All AI runs on the server, no AI keys reach the browser, and every call is logged with user, feature, model and tokens.
Search inside videos
The library search matches titles, descriptions and tags, and the words spoken in every film in all four languages. Each match shows the exact moment, such as “at 4:12”, with the line that was said; clicking it starts the film there.
AI chapters
When subtitles are saved, AI splits the film into 4 to 10 chapters, each with a timestamp and a short title, listed under the player and marked on its timeline.
Ask this video
A question box on the watch page. Answers come only from that film’s transcript and cite the moments they rely on as clickable timestamps. If the film does not cover the question, the answer says so instead of guessing.
Descriptions and tags
Written by AI from the transcript and shown on the watch page; clicking a tag searches the library. Admins can edit both, and hand edits are kept when chapters are regenerated.
Subtitles made in the browser
While a film uploads, the browser transcribes its speech with Whisper and translates it with NLLB into the other three languages. An admin reviews every line in each language before saving.
Daily limits
50 searches inside films and 30 questions per user per day, reset at midnight UTC, so AI costs stay predictable.
How LyStream is built
The pieces that make streaming, payments and multilingual AI work together.
Mux for video
Uploaded files go straight to Mux, which encodes them for streaming, so there is no encoding pipeline to build or maintain.
Stripe for rentals
Secure Stripe checkout with saved cards and 3D Secure support, running in sandbox mode. Repeat rentals of an active film are never charged twice.
Transcripts as the foundation
One reviewed transcript per language powers subtitles, search inside films, chapters, descriptions, tags and Ask this video, so every AI answer can point to a real moment.
Human review of machine output
Speech recognition and machine translation do the heavy lifting; an admin checks each line before anything is attached, and each language shows its status from queued to attached.
Access that matches the role
Anyone can browse; playing, renting, searching inside films and asking questions need a sign-in; only admins can upload, edit, delete or save subtitles. Logins last 7 days on a device.
AI on the server
No AI keys in the browser, a log of every call, and per-user daily limits. Admins can see the last week of AI usage at a glance.
